According to Al Jazeera, Iran has accused the United States of bombing a house hosting a wedding celebration in Sirik county, southern Iran, killing at least five people, including a child.

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the attack struck a residence in Kuhestak early on Wednesday. State-owned Press TV reported at least five deaths. Reza Shahidiyan, the governor of Sirik county, told the IRIB state broadcaster that 63 people were wounded, including 50 women and children.

Shahidiyan said those injured were taken to a hospital in nearby Minab and were in stable condition. Fars news agency published an account from a child who survived, who said fighter jets were heard before an intense explosion sent bricks, stones and cement into people at the venue.

The US military announced a new wave of strikes against what it described as Iranian military targets, saying the action followed attempted attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. It said it struck air defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites.

Iran’s military said it retaliated by attacking US bases and assets in Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq. Kuwait also reported intercepting drones. Tasnim news agency reported additional explosions in Konarak, Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island.
