Arabic version: وزير الخارجية الإيراني يسافر إلى روسيا لإجراء محادثات دبلوماسية
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed Islamabad for Moscow, as reported by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His trip comes during ongoing efforts to maintain dialogue between Tehran and Washington, following a series of complex geopolitical developments.
According to Al Jazeera, Araghchi’s journey included a stop in Muscat, Oman, before heading to Russia, where he is expected to engage with senior officials. However, there has been no confirmation regarding direct negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Indirect communication continues, with reports indicating that Iran has sent written messages to the U.S. through Pakistan, addressing key issues such as nuclear concerns and the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Despite these exchanges, they do not constitute formal negotiations.
The backdrop to these diplomatic maneuvers includes the ongoing conflict, sparked by U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. President Donald Trump recently extended a ceasefire agreement initially reached on April 7, which has helped to reduce hostilities. However, the prospect of a permanent resolution remains uncertain, and the economic ramifications of the conflict are significant, particularly with the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz affecting global oil and gas supplies.
