Arabic version: الانتخابات الإسرائيلية تترك مسارات الائتلاف غامضة

According to Al Jazeera, Israel’s first election since the October 7 attacks and the genocidal war in Gaza has produced no clear winner, leaving the formation of a government uncertain.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s alliance of right-wing and far-right parties is short of a majority following Tuesday’s vote. The election, described as among the most consequential in decades, recorded turnout at a record level.

The main opposition bloc, led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, also lacks enough seats to form a government independently. The result leaves both major camps facing difficult coalition calculations.

Parties representing Palestinian citizens of Israel made unprecedented electoral gains. Netanyahu has refused to work with Arab-led lists, while questions remain over whether the opposition alliance could seek an agreement with them.

The coalition debate is unfolding as Israeli military assaults on Gaza and the occupied West Bank continue. Al Jazeera’s discussion featured Mairav Zonszein of the International Crisis Group, Mustafa Barghouti of the Palestinian National Initiative and Phyllis Bennis of the Institute for Policy Studies.
