Arabic version: جاك درابر يتقدم إلى ربع نهائي بطولة إيستبورن
Jack Draper has successfully reached the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne tournament, marking a significant step in his comeback from injury. The British player, who has faced numerous injury challenges over the past year, secured a victory over fellow Brit Jack Pinnington Jones with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
According to BBC News, Draper, 24, had not played competitively for over two months due to a knee injury sustained at the Barcelona Open in April. This injury was part of a series of setbacks that limited him to just 13 matches in the past year. Despite these challenges, Draper expressed gratitude for his performance and the opportunity to compete again.
Draper, who has recently started working with new coach Sir Andy Murray, demonstrated impressive form during the match. He began strongly, breaking serve early, although he faced some challenges when he missed a set point at 5-4. However, he quickly regained control and finished the first set with consecutive aces.
Moving into the second set, Draper maintained his momentum, breaking serve again early on and not facing any break points as he closed out the match. He will next face Canada’s Gabriel Diallo in the last eight on Thursday. Draper also acknowledged his friendship with Pinnington Jones, highlighting the difficulty of competing against a close friend.
In addition to Draper, fellow British players Jan Choinski and Toby Samuel also advanced to the quarter-finals, with Choinski achieving his first ATP Tour quarter-final and Samuel earning his first Tour-level win. The tournament continues to showcase emerging talent alongside established players as they prepare for future competitions.
