According to ABC News, jurors in Lindsay Kennedy’s Northern Territory Supreme Court murder trial are expected to begin deliberations on Monday after hearing closing addresses over the alleged death of his former partner, Colleen Bradshaw. Kennedy was charged with murder in November 2024, four months after Bradshaw died at Royal Darwin Hospital on July 17 from a traumatic brain injury.

The court was shown CCTV footage from Railway Terrace in Katherine that prosecutors said depicted Kennedy punching Bradshaw on July 11, six days before her death. The footage showed him stomping on her head after she fell, leaving her on the footpath, then returning to kick her in the head and chest. Crown prosecutor Deborah Mandie told jurors they could infer murderous intent from the actions shown in the footage.

Defence barrister David Hallowes SC said Kennedy’s assault on Bradshaw and its fatal outcome did not prove an intent to kill. He told the jury the appropriate finding would be guilty of the alternate offence of committing a violent act causing death, while accepting negligent manslaughter might also be established. The court heard Bradshaw and her sister made four Triple Zero calls in the days after the assault before she was taken by ambulance to Katherine District Hospital.

Forensic pathologist Salona Roopan testified that Bradshaw died from “blunt force head trauma and consequences thereof”. She said trauma suffered about seven to 14 days before death started a slow bleed inside Bradshaw’s skull. By the time Bradshaw died, the bleeding around her brain had displaced it by almost a centimetre. Justice Peter Barr is expected to instruct the jury before deliberations begin.
