The Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education has extended a heartfelt invitation to the Lebanese community in Australia to participate in the World Arabic Language Day 2025 initiative—an international celebration designed to honour the richness, heritage, and cultural depth of the Arabic language.
The invitation comes directly from Her Excellency Rima Karami, Minister of Education and Higher Education of Lebanon, who recently visited Australia and witnessed firsthand the strong connection the Lebanese diaspora maintains with its homeland. Minister Karami expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality she received, and praised the community’s unwavering commitment to teaching Arabic and preserving Lebanese values across generations.
A Lebanese–Australian Educational Partnership
During her visit in early November, Minister Karami engaged with community leaders and educators to establish joint educational initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between Lebanon and Lebanese families in Sydney. She emphasised that from the moment the Arabic language celebration was conceived, Australia was envisioned as a core partner.
The 2025 initiative, titled “In Arabic, We Celebrate a Culture That Made History,” will culminate on 18 December 2025, aligning with the global observance of World Arabic Language Day. The program aims to both celebrate the language and innovate its use within modern educational and digital contexts.
Objectives of the Initiative
The celebration invites participation from the entire educational community—students, teachers, educational coordinators, school administrators, and parents. Its objectives include:
- Reviving the beauty of the Arabic language while integrating it with modern technology and media
- Encouraging creativity, self-expression, and collaboration among students
- Developing both linguistic and artistic skills
- Strengthening cultural pride and reinforcing Lebanese identity abroad
- Involving schools and families in shared cultural and educational activities
The initiative welcomes primary students (Years 1–6) and intermediate students (Years 7–9), with contributions spanning a wide range of creative and academic activities.
Themes and Activities
Participants may choose from three main themes:
- Arabic: The Language of Science, Poetry, and Art
- Arabic: A Bridge Between Cultures
- Arabic: From Ancient Manuscripts to Digital Screens
Activities may include creative writing, poetry, spoken recitation, visual arts, technical or digital projects, and cultural presentations. This broad scope ensures students of varying strengths and interests can meaningfully contribute.
All participating work from Lebanon and Australia will be compiled into a shared digital flipbook, published on the Lebanese Ministry of Education website. This unified showcase will serve as a vibrant expression of global Lebanese identity—bridging continents through language, creativity, and community pride.

The Minister encouraged members of the Lebanese community in Australia to share the initiative widely across Lebanese schools, community groups, and cultural organisations. She also highlighted the role of local media in raising awareness and celebrating the efforts of the Lebanese diaspora in preserving the Arabic language abroad.
A Message from Minister Rima Karami
Minister Karami reaffirmed that Arabic is more than a language—it is a foundational pillar of Lebanese identity. By participating in this initiative, Lebanese students in Australia will be helping to keep the language alive, vibrant, and connected to future generations.
She concluded her message with confidence in the diaspora’s ability to contribute exceptional and meaningful work:
“Your participation will undoubtedly add exceptional value and will be a source of pride for Lebanon and all Lebanese around the world.”
