Arabic version: لبنان يواجه أزمة إنسانية بسبب الهجمات الإسرائيلية المستمرة

Lebanon is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis as Israel continues its military assaults, now four weeks into a conflict tied to the US-Israeli war on Iran. Millions of civilians are suffering, with a significant portion of the population displaced following forced evacuation orders from southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh. According to Al Jazeera, the situation has escalated to a second large-scale attack in less than two years, with at least 1.2 million people affected.

The displaced population faces immense frustration and fatigue, as many struggle with rising petrol prices and a slowdown in business. Samiha, a Palestinian teacher who recently relocated to Beirut from Tyre, expressed her concerns about the ongoing conflict, stating that while her family is more prepared this time, uncertainty looms about the duration of the violence.

Israel intensified its military operations on March 2, 2026, following Hezbollah’s response to previous attacks. The Lebanese government has reported that Israel’s actions have resulted in significant casualties and displacement, with the latest figures indicating 1,094 deaths and 3,119 injuries in Lebanon. Humanitarian organizations warn that the situation is deteriorating rapidly, with vulnerable populations, including migrant workers and those with chronic health issues, suffering the most.

Aid workers have noted that the scale of displacement and the targeting of civilian infrastructure is unprecedented compared to previous conflicts. Anandita Philipose from the UN sexual and reproductive health agency highlighted the dire implications for women, particularly pregnant women, who are losing access to essential healthcare during the crisis.

The psychological toll on the Lebanese population is also alarming. The National Lifeline for Emotional Support and Suicide Prevention has seen a surge in calls for help, with many individuals grappling with long-term trauma exacerbated by the ongoing violence. As the situation unfolds, volunteers and mental health professionals are striving to provide support to those in need, acknowledging the heavy burden of despair that has enveloped the country.
