Charles Leclerc and Ferrari were dominant in all three practices and the qualifying which saw Leclerc taking pole position followed by Redbulls Max Verstapten and his teammate Sergio “Checo” Perez.

On Sunday, in Albert Park Melbourne, Charles was on a mission. From the start he fended off Max’s attempts to overtake him keeping him at bay through two safety cars. First one on the second lap as his teammate Carlos Sainz who had a disappointing early end to his Australian GP as he spun out of control which resulted in him retiring early from the race. And a second Safety car on lap 23 after Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel crashed and had to retire from the race.

The dangers will soon fade away after Max’s race comes to a heartbreaking end with engine fire on his 39th lap.

Charles took home the trophy with Perez behind him at second and George Russell just beat teamate Lewis Hamilton to claim his first podium of the season.

With 3rd and 4th place Mercedes outscored Redbull and retook second place in the constructors championship.

Leclerc solidified his place on top of the drivers championship with 71 points and behind him now is George Russell with 37 points.

Max is having one of his worst starts of the season so far having a DNF in 2 of the first 3 races. Him and Redbull suffered engine failures.

In Bahrain both Max and Checo failed to finish the race due to engine troubles, and in Melbourne Max’s engine failed him yet again, bursting into flames and preventing him a podium finish.

Redbull will look to fix things up and make a comeback in Italy on April 24th.

Alonso after failing to finish the fastest lap in the qualifying having crashed his car in the third sector, and ending the weekend in a disappointing way finishing 17th, will have a lot of work to do in the upcoming Italian GP.

Mercedes are still significantly slower than Ferrari and Redbull this year. With room for improvement they’ll look to get back to their race winning form in Italy.
