Nearly $3 billion in road upgrades are powering ahead across Western Sydney, with contracts now signed on five major projects which will deliver the capacity needed for one of Australia’s fastest growing regions.

The major projects, jointly funded by the Albanese and Minns Labor Governments, will unlock capacity on the road network, upgrade key intersections, improve local connections and support access to Western Sydney International Airport.

Contracts have been awarded and construction is expected to start later this year to deliver:

• $1 billion – Mamre Road Stage 2: Gamuda BMD JV will upgrade 6.1 kilometres of Mamre Road, converting the existing single lane road into two lanes between Erskine Park Road and Kerrs Road, Kemps Creek, including upgrades to key intersections and active transport links to support this growing employment area.

• $1 billion – Elizabeth Drive: Gamuda BMD JV will widen the road to two lanes in each direction between Devonshire Road and Badgerys Creek Road, improving access to Western Sydney International Airport and local connectivity.

• $440 million – Garfield Road East: Fulton Hogan will widen the road to two lanes in each direction between Piccadilly Street, Riverstone, and Windsor Road, Box Hill.

• $247 million – Henry Lawson Drive Stage 1B: BMD Constructions will deliver around 1.8 kilometres of dual carriageway between Auld Avenue, Milperra, and the M5 Motorway. The upgrade will provide two lanes in each direction, while protecting adjoining bushland.

• $190 million – The Horsley Drive: Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering Pty Ltd will widen 650-metre of road to two lanes in each direction between the M7 Motorway and Wallgrove Road at Horsley Park, improving one of Western Sydney’s important road connections.

Other significant Western Sydney road projects are also starting to take shape, with consultation now open on Spring Farm Parkway Stage 2, while designs for the Windsor Road Upgrade at Rouse Hill and Picton Bypass will be placed on public display in the coming months.

The $200 million upgrade of the Homebush Bay Drive, Australia Avenue and Underwood Road intersection at Sydney Olympic Park and Homebush is also progressing, with planning approval now in place and construction expected to start in 2027.

The upgrade will replace the existing roundabout with a signalised intersection and add lanes to improve traffic flow and safety at a key location carrying almost 5,000 vehicles an hour during weekday peaks, while also improving connections for people walking and riding.

The Bandon Road project is also moving ahead with project approval expected soon and tender processes underway.
