According to ABC News, a man in his 20s died after he was towed by a quad bike and struck a goalpost at a recreation reserve in Osborne, regional New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the reserve on Osborne Yerong Creek Road, about 70 kilometres west of Wagga Wagga, shortly after 2:30pm on Sunday. Police said the man was seriously injured after hitting the goalpost on the oval. Bystanders gave first aid before emergency crews arrived, but he died at the scene. He has not yet been formally identified.

Police arrested the quad bike driver, a 20-year-old man, after the crash. He was taken to Wagga Wagga police station for mandatory testing and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, driving in a dangerous manner and negligent driving occasioning death.

The driver was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, September 23.

Lockhart Shire Council Mayor Peter Sharp said Osborne, a rural and farming community with fewer than 30 residents, was in shock. He said the two men involved were members of the local football club, whose senior team had played in the Hume League grand final on Saturday. The council is working with the Murrumbidgee Health District to arrange counselling for people who need support.
