Arabic version: رجل يُحكم عليه بالسجن مدى الحياة بتهمة قتل شريكته والتسبب في انفجار
Clifton George, 45, has been jailed for life for the murder of his partner, Annabel Rook, and for causing a devastating gas explosion at their shared home. The sentencing took place after George was convicted of murder at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He received a minimum term of 23 years.
According to BBC News, the tragic incident occurred on June 17, 2025, when George attacked Rook, a mother of two, after she attempted to end their decade-long relationship. The brutal assault involved punching, attempted strangulation, and stabbing Rook 31 times. Her body was discovered in their home on Dumont Road in Stoke Newington, north London.
The court heard evidence of George’s aggressive behavior and volatile temper, which often flared over minor issues. Following the murder, he ignited a fire in the basement, leading to a gas canister explosion that caused approximately £400,000 in damages to the property.
During the sentencing, Mr. Justice Constable KC remarked on George’s dual nature, noting his capacity for friendliness alongside a troubling temper that could erupt unexpectedly. Rook’s family expressed their anguish in court, with her father labeling George as “utterly selfish” and her mother describing him as “a wicked, totally narcissistic, damaged person.” They emphasized the profound impact of Rook’s death on their lives, highlighting the loss of joy and hope.
George had initially admitted to manslaughter and arson but denied the murder charge, claiming he lost control. However, evidence presented during the trial painted a different picture of his character, with friends and family testifying to his abusive tendencies. In a moment of desperation after the explosion, George was found lying on the kitchen floor, covered in blood, and attempted to harm himself with broken glass.
