According to France 24, Muslims celebrated Mawlid across Africa, but festivities were cancelled in Tigray because of recent drone attacks. The report appeared in France 24’s Eye on Africa programme, issued on August 25, 2026.

The programme also reported that the United States on Monday called for strengthened United Nations sanctions against the warring parties in Sudan.

Elsewhere, a recent discovery of gold in the Kenyan village of Cheporor sent thousands of amateur prospectors rushing to the area, France 24 reported.
