According to BBC News, Mayo have won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship for the first time in 75 years, beating Kerry by three points at Croke Park to claim the Sam Maguire Cup.

The victory was Mayo’s fourth All-Ireland title and ended a run of 11 final defeats since their previous triumph in 1951. Players fell to their knees at the final hooter after dethroning Kerry, the favourites for consecutive titles and Gaelic football’s most decorated team.

Mayo trailed by one point at half-time after David Clifford scored a goal for Kerry. Four minutes after the restart, Darragh Beirne completed a flowing move to put Mayo ahead, and they did not relinquish the lead despite late Kerry pressure.

Former Mayo defender Padraig O’Hora, working as a BBC pundit, said: “Thousands upon thousands of people have dreamed of this day, I can’t believe it’s here.” Manager Andy Moran, a former Mayo player in his first year in charge, celebrated with his wife and family in the stands.

Captain Jack Coyne told supporters to “dream big things” before lifting the trophy. Kobe McDonald, 18, said the occasion was “surreal” after helping deliver a victory for supporters who had waited decades. Mayo will return to Castlebar to celebrate the historic success with people in the county.
