Arabic version: محمد صلاح يؤكد مغادرته لليفربول في نهاية الموسم

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has announced he will leave the club at the end of the season. The 33-year-old Egypt international confirmed the news via a video message on his social media accounts, stating, “Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.” According to BBC News, Salah signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool in April 2025 but will leave the club on a free transfer after the club said they had “reached an agreement” over his future.

This season has been challenging for Salah, who has scored only 10 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions, potentially marking his lowest tally since joining Liverpool. Speculation about his departure intensified earlier in the season when Salah expressed frustrations regarding his relationship with head coach Arne Slot and suggested he felt “thrown under the bus” by the club.

Salah’s announcement comes as he expressed a desire to inform supporters “at the earliest possible opportunity”. He reflected on his time at Liverpool, stating it has left a significant mark on his life, especially through difficult periods such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the death of teammate Diogo Jota. Salah emphasized the deep connection he has formed with the club and its supporters, saying, “Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit.”

During his nine years at Liverpool, Salah has been instrumental in the club’s success, contributing to two Premier League titles and a Champions League victory among other trophies. He ranks third in Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorers with 255 goals in 435 appearances. Salah expressed gratitude towards the fans who supported him throughout his career, stating, “You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. The club will always be my home.”

Liverpool acknowledged Salah’s remarkable nine-year chapter at the club and mentioned plans to celebrate his legacy later in the season. The club noted that Salah remains focused on achieving the best possible finish this season, with more matches left to play.
