Under the patronage of Darulfatwa – Islamic High Council Australia, the Islamic Charity Projects Association (ICPA) organized, the annual grand Mawlid celebration 2026 commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ.
The event was held on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at the Whitlam Center Liverpool under the slogan: “Muhammad… Upon His Path We Live.”
The event was attended by Professor Sheikh Salim Alwan, the chairman of Darulfatwa; the ICPA President, Hajj Mohammed Mehio; Mr David Moncrieff MP federal Member for Hughes; Liverpool MP Charishma Kaliyanda representing NSW Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper; Members of Parliament Julia Finn, Linda Voltz, Nathan Hagarty, Mr David Moncrieff MP Federal Member for Hughesthe Government Envoy for Combating Islamophobia, Aftab Malik; Moroccan Ambassador H E Mrs Wissane Zailachi; HE Mrs Mirna KHAWLY Ambassador of Lebanon; His Excellency Mr Abdul Kareem Toma Mehdi KAAB Ambassador of Iraq; H E Mr Ahmed Abdel Latif Ambassador of Sudan; from High Commission of Malaysian Dr Johari bin AB LATIFF ; Lebanese Consul General Mr Raymond Chamlati; Egyptian Consul General Mrs Reem Zahran; Iraqi Consul General Mr Muthanna Kamel Al-Subaihi; Pakistan Consul General Mr Qamar Zaman; Lebanese consul Dr Sarah Dirani ,Bosnian Consulate representative Mr Ernest Kolozovich; Councillors Richard Amoun, Zila Menzja, and saoud abu samen; Liverpool Police representative Chief Inspector Greg Tetley; and Bankstown Police representative Inspector David Botha.
Also in attendance were a large gathering of sheikhs, religious leaders, heads of associations and political parties, media representatives, and thousands of members of the Muslim communities.
The official ceremony began with a welcoming address delivered by Professor Sheikh Salim Alwan, the chairman of Darulfatwa. He welcomed the attendees on this blessed occasion, highlighting the importance of following the path of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, a path of tolerance, goodness, moderation, and goodwill toward all people.
Hajj Mohammed Mehio then spoke about the profound significance of this occasion and the importance of following the example of the Messenger of Mercy and Peace and adhering to his teachings and noble character.
Liverpool MP Charishma Kaliyanda delivered a message on behalf of NSW Premier Chris Minns, Shared the meaning and importance of the event
emphasising the role played by Darulfatwa and the Islamic Charity Projects Association in protecting Australian society from social problems through their constructive contributions in the educational, cultural, and social fields. She stated: “It is an honour for me that these institutions affiliated with the Association are located in the area that I represent.”
Government Envoy for Combating Islamophobia Aftab Malik addressed the importance of protecting society, especially the Muslim community, from racism and discrimination, thanking the Federal Government for its efforts in combating this phenomenon.
The celebration in the sports arena commenced with a procession of the Blessed Relic, led by the sheikhs carrying the Prophetic Relic until it was placed on the stage. Professor Sheikh Salim Alwan then delivered a speech, saying:
“Muhammad, the Truthful and Rightly Guided; Muhammad, the Bearer of Upright Speech. Through you we are guided, O Messenger of Allah; through you we follow the right path, O Beloved of Allah; through you we receive light, O Prophet of Allah. Muhammad, for whom the trees bore witness; Muhammad, to whom the stones offered greetings; Muhammad, for whom the moon was split; Muhammad, for whom the dry trunk longed; Muhammad, from between whose blessed fingers water flowed. moderation and balance were your way and your methodology, for you brought truth, guidance, justice, and righteousness.”
He added:
“We praise Allah for this great blessing, and may Allah keep us and you steadfast in commemorating it year after year.”
The ceremony continued with a variety of nasheed performances by adults and children, along with artistic presentations in different languages illustrating the story of the Prophet’s birth and expressing love and longing for Muhammad ﷺ, the best of Allah’s creation.
The Blessed Relic of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was also displayed. It consists of several authenticated and preserved hairs attributed to the Prophet, endorsed and sealed by a number of sultans and scholars.
A draw was held for the prize of Umrah trip, one of the participants in attendance won it. The gift was presented to her by Dr Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Shafie.
