The search is on for Parramatta’s next local heroes with nominations for the 2027 City of Parramatta Citizen of the Year Awards now open.
The annual awards, part of Council’s Australia Day program, recognise and celebrate the individuals, organisations and community groups making an outstanding contribution to life in Parramatta.
From dedicated volunteers and community champions to inspiring young leaders and grassroots organisations, residents are encouraged to nominate the people who help make Parramatta a stronger community.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the awards were an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the people quietly making a difference every day.
“There are people across Parramatta giving their time, supporting others and helping our community thrive, and these awards are our chance to celebrate them and say thank you,” Cr Zaiter said.
“We know there are incredible stories in every corner of our City so whether it’s a volunteer, mentor, coach, neighbour or community group, I encourage residents to put their local heroes’ names forward.
“It’s a unique opportunity to learn about the inspiring work happening across Parramatta and help acknowledge those making a real impact.”
The awards honour achievements and contributions across a range of fields, including community service, sport, education, business, arts and culture, environmental care, leadership and volunteering.
Community members can apply to join the judging panel for the Citizen of the Year Awards with expressions of interest opening from 14 September to 26 October.
Award nominations are open until 5pm on Friday 30 October with judging taking place later in December before award recipients are announced at the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards ceremony on Monday 25 January 2027.
