On Monday, 17 March 2025, the New South Wales Government hosted a significant Iftar event at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta, bringing together community leaders, students, and government officials to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan. The event was attended by many Members of Parliament, mayors, and key figures from diverse communities, reflecting the strong spirit of inclusivity and multiculturalism in NSW.

The evening commenced with Master of Ceremonies Ali Faraj introducing Uncle Graham Davis King, who delivered a heartfelt Welcome to Country, acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land and emphasising the importance of unity and respect among diverse cultures.

A highlight of the event was a series of interviews with students discussing the meaning of Ramadan. They shared personal insights into the significance of fasting, reflection, and community during this sacred month, offering attendees a deeper understanding of Islamic traditions.



Mustafa Ashrafi captivated the audience with a melodious recitation from the Quran, setting a serene and contemplative tone for the evening.


Minister for Multiculturalism, Stephen Kamper MP, addressed the gathering, stating firmly, “Islamophobia will never be tolerated in NSW,” reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and harmonious society.

NSW Premier Chris Minns also spoke, encouraging collective participation in the spirit of Ramadan: “Let us unite in fasting with our Muslim brothers and sisters.” He emphasised the state’s rich cultural tapestry, noting, “Islam is an essential part of NSW,” and called for continued efforts towards harmony and mutual respect.


Among the guests was Dr. Charbel Tadros, representing Oz Arab Media, highlighting the media organisation’s dedication to covering multicultural events and fostering community dialogue.

The Iftar at CommBank Stadium exemplified the NSW Government’s dedication to celebrating cultural diversity and promoting understanding across communities, reinforcing the message of unity and coexistence.
