According to Allafrica, Egypt’s Deputy Ambassador to Malawi was admitted to a hospital in Lilongwe after being attacked and beaten, prompting a police investigation.

National Police spokesperson Gladys Chiwaula confirmed the incident on 30 October 2026. She said police were following up on the matter and would provide more details later.

“Police are following up on the matter and will give more details later,” Chiwaula said.

Police gave few details about the assault. They did not disclose where it occurred, what led to it, or the seriousness of the diplomat’s injuries. The deputy ambassador’s name has also been withheld.

Officers said they are investigating the attack. The incident is likely to raise alarm over the safety of foreign envoys in Malawi.
