A 17-year-old girl has been found dead in a residential home in the remote Northern Territory community of Galiwin’ku, prompting police to treat the case as suspicious. Authorities responded to a report shortly after 11am that the girl was unconscious.

Upon arrival, NT police officers and local clinic workers declared the teenager dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding her death are currently under investigation by detectives from the Serious Crime Section.

According to ABC News, a 34-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the case. Police confirmed that the man in custody and the girl were known to each other and that the matter is being treated as a domestic violence incident.
