According to Al Jazeera, Iranian officials are discussing a two-day plan with Qatari mediators to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart peace talks with the United States. The efforts come as officials on both sides signal readiness for further military escalation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said an Iranian delegation, including one of his aides, travelled to Doha, while Qatari officials had earlier held consultations in Tehran. He said the proposed plan would depend on Washington meeting Iranian demands.

Those demands include lifting recently imposed US sanctions, restoring oil waivers granted in June, reducing the US military presence in the region, recognising shipping routes designated by Iran and Oman, and ending conflict on all fronts, including Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. Araghchi said Qatari and Pakistani mediators were continuing consultations.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Qatar-led talks were under way, saying discussions had never stopped and that Washington would be open to a diplomatic solution. President Donald Trump said negotiations were “going fine” but “not very reliable”, while adding that the US still had Iranian sites to address.

Iranian officials said they remain open to peace talks if their conditions are met, but warned of a forceful response to any new attack. Araghchi said Iran’s armed forces were more prepared for war than ever, while security chief Mohsen Rezaei said Iran could use “new weaponry” in response to future attacks.
