Raymond Reddington has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife, Sharon Fulton, which occurred 40 years ago in Perth. A Supreme Court jury found Reddington guilty last month, and he will serve a minimum of 20 years behind bars. Due to his age and health issues, he is likely to die in custody. According to ABC News, Justice Joseph McGrath emphasized the profound impact of Fulton’s death on her family and friends.

Reddington, who was known as Robert Fulton at the time of the murder, was convicted for killing his wife in March 1986, when she was just 39 years old. The court heard that Reddington was concerned about financial repercussions if Fulton left him, and he ultimately killed her at their home in Duncraig. Justice McGrath noted that Reddington had taken out a life insurance policy worth $120,000 in Fulton’s name, which he could benefit from after her death.

The prosecution described Reddington’s actions as an “extreme act of family violence”. Following a lengthy investigation, he was extradited to Perth from Port Macquarie, New South Wales, and was not charged until 2023. Reddington had previously provided inconsistent accounts regarding Fulton’s disappearance and attempted to deflect blame by suggesting she was a victim of serial killers.

In a statement after the sentencing, Fulton’s son, Heath, expressed the family’s ongoing quest to find his mother’s remains. He stated, “We have much still left to do in trying to find our mother… that search for her final resting place remains our priority.”

The Western Australia Police are still actively seeking information on the location of Sharon Fulton’s body and have appealed to the public for assistance. Major Crimes Division Acting Inspector Jessica Securo reiterated the commitment of the police to pursue justice, stating that the family deserves answers regarding the case.
