Arabic version: عائلة رينيه غود تقاضي إدارة ترامب
According to ABC News, the family of Renee Good is suing the Trump administration over her fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during deportation sweeps in Minneapolis.
Good, 37, was shot dead in her car on January 7 after she and her wife joined a daily protest against federal agents deployed to Minnesota to arrest migrants for deportation. The lawsuits allege Trump administration officials were negligent and violated the civil rights of Good and others in Minneapolis, and seek a jury trial and damages.
Good was one of two US citizens fatally shot by immigration agents during the operation, dubbed Operation Metro Surge. Days after her death, an ICE agent shot and wounded Venezuelan delivery driver Julio Sosa-Celis in the leg. Two weeks later, immigration agents fatally shot Alex Pretti, a US Department of Veterans Affairs nurse.
Videos of Good’s killing showed ICE agent Jonathan Ross approaching her car and recording on his mobile phone. Footage showed her reversing briefly before moving forward and turning right. Ross shouted “Whoa!” and fired into the vehicle, striking Good three times. None of the agents involved has faced charges.
The Department of Homeland Security has defended Ross and other immigration officers, describing their actions as justified uses of force in dangerous situations. A Hennepin County investigation has been slowed after the Justice Department withdrew usual cooperation and evidence-sharing with local law enforcement. Minnesota has sued the administration for access to evidence gathered at the shooting scenes.
