Arabic version: رونالدو يقول إن على البرتغال معاقبته بسبب مغادرة المعسكر
According to BBC News, Cristiano Ronaldo says he is not retiring from international football and believes he should be punished after leaving Portugal’s Nations League camp.
The 41-year-old Portugal captain walked out after being an unused substitute against Norway and learning that he would not start against Denmark. Ronaldo said he had apologised but accepted that his actions should have consequences.
“The Portuguese Football Federation must assess the consequences of my actions and punish me for them. I believe the punishment should not be reduced,” he said. He added that he would be available again after any suspension period, provided he was physically fit, playing for his club and scoring goals.
Ronaldo said Portugal coach Jorge Jesus had previously agreed a fitness-management plan under which the forward would miss the Norway and Denmark matches. He said Jesus later told him he would play for 30 minutes against Norway, but Ronaldo warmed up from half-time and was not used.
The Al-Nassr forward said he felt the manager had broken his word. Ronaldo has scored 146 goals in 234 Portugal appearances, both world records, and helped the country win Euro 2016 and the Nations League twice. Jesus said on Sunday that the door remained open for Ronaldo to play for Portugal.
