According to ABC News, Russia’s FSB security service said it had begun “appropriate” work after receiving US information about preparations for a terrorist attack in Moscow. The US embassy said it was aware of a credible threat of a mass-casualty event at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve on Saturday, local time.

The US government said it had coordinated with appropriate Russian authorities on a response. It advised people to avoid the area, stay alert and avoid crowds, but did not provide details about who was allegedly plotting the attack.

Tsaritsyno is an imperial palace and park complex in southern Moscow and is especially popular on weekends. Russian Telegram channel Baza, which is reported to have links to law enforcement, said the park had been closed and was open only for exits, with law enforcement officers on the premises.

The warning follows a March 2024 alert by the US Embassy that extremists had imminent plans for an attack in Moscow. Days later, gunmen attacked the Crocus City Hall concert venue outside the capital, killing more than 140 people.

Separately, European media reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin would accept US President Donald Trump’s invitation to attend the December G20 summit in the United States. Mr Putin has not attended a G20 summit since 2019. A traditional group photograph at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta was cancelled after multiple US allies, including Australia, refused to be photographed alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
