Arabic version: غارة طائرة مسيرة روسية على سوق نيكوبول تودي بحياة خمسة أشخاص
A Russian drone attack on a market in Nikopol, southern Ukraine, has resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left 21 others injured, including a 14-year-old girl, according to BBC News. The assault occurred at 09:50 local time and caused significant destruction to market kiosks, with debris scattered across the area.
The attack is part of a broader pattern of violence, as at least 15 civilians were killed in various drone and missile strikes across Ukraine on Friday. Nikopol has frequently been targeted, prompting many of its 100,000 residents to seek safety elsewhere. The latest strike occurred during a busy Saturday morning, leading to a high number of casualties.
In addition to the Nikopol attack, a drone and missile assault by Ukraine on the Russian city of Taganrog resulted in one death and four serious injuries, according to Russian officials. The regional governor reported that the attack caused a fire at a logistics company in the city.
The Ukrainian air force indicated that Russia launched nearly 300 drones against Ukraine overnight, with casualties also reported in Kharkiv and the Sumy region. Russia claimed to have shot down 85 Ukrainian drones during the same period. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials reported successful strikes on Russian military facilities, including a plant in Togliatti that produces materials for the military industrial complex.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed a truce for the upcoming Easter holidays, but Moscow has yet to respond. Despite the ongoing hostilities, a British intelligence assessment suggests that the situation on the eastern front is currently more favorable for Ukraine than it has been in the past ten months.
