Arabic version: سام كامبل يطلق مسلسل كوميدي فريد بعنوان ‘اجعل ذلك الفيلم’
Australian comedian Sam Campbell has debuted his new Channel 4 sitcom, ‘Make That Movie,’ which blends absurdity with a reality show format. The series features Campbell as a fictional version of himself—a pompous director whose well of inspiration has run dry. He invites the public to pitch bizarre movie ideas, which he and his dysfunctional crew bring to life, culminating in a film premiere at the end of each episode.
According to The Guardian, the production allowed Campbell a great deal of creative freedom, as the production company was preoccupied with working on an animated Ricky Gervais series about cats. Channel 4’s head of comedy, Charlie Perkins, expressed trust in Campbell’s vision, despite initial confusion about the show’s concept.
Campbell’s co-stars, including comedian Lara Ricote, initially found the script perplexing but remained confident in Campbell’s comedic instincts. The show features a cast that includes fellow Australian comic Aaron Chen and veteran actor David Hargreaves, contributing to a whimsical atmosphere reminiscent of a cartoon.
Since moving to the UK from his native Australia in the early 2020s, Campbell has emerged as a distinctive voice in comedy, known for his irreverent style and absurdist humor. His previous successes, including appearances on ‘Taskmaster’ and ‘Last One Laughing,’ have set high expectations for his new venture. ‘Make That Movie’ promises to be a showcase of Campbell’s unique comedic sensibility, inviting viewers into a world where bizarre ideas take center stage.
