According to BBC News, seven people were arrested and a police car was set alight during Bonfire Night disorder in parts of Scotland. A police officer and an ambulance staff member suffered minor injuries after being attacked with fireworks in Glasgow.
The police vehicle was seriously damaged in Greenside Street in the Provanmill area of Glasgow, where a 16-year-old boy was arrested. Fireworks were also thrown at police and members of the public in several parts of Edinburgh, while fire service crews came under attack in a number of towns.
Chief Superintendent David Robertson said police officers, ambulance staff and firefighters were there to protect communities and should not be targets of violence. He said thorough investigations would identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
Police Scotland reported youths blocking Oxgangs Road North in Edinburgh at about 17:30. Officers who attended had fireworks set off in their direction, though no injuries were reported. Fire crews extinguished small fires in bins and a park.
Elsewhere, a public order unit was deployed in Dundee after more than 100 young people gathered and a fire was started on a road. A 15-year-old was taken to hospital in Alexandria after a firework exploded and damaged his eye. No firefighters were hurt and no serious damage was caused to fire engines.
