According to BBC News, Gloucester hooker Jack Singleton hopes to return to full training next month, a year after suffering a heart attack while training with the club.

Singleton, 29 at the time of the incident, had played one Prem Cup game for Gloucester in September 2025 as the 2025-26 campaign began. He said he experienced symptoms including dizziness and an aching arm, rather than collapsing, and initially felt “a bit under the weather”. He has not played rugby since.

Tests in the following weeks led to a diagnosis of a hereditary condition called LPA. Singleton said his LDL cholesterol was extremely elevated, causing narrowings and blockages in his arteries. His father died of a heart attack at 56, and Singleton said the condition is managed through drugs rather than diet and exercise. He has received treatment at Gloucester Royal and St George’s Hospital in London.

The England international, who has seven caps and played 75 games for Gloucester after joining in 2020, said the key question had been whether he would be allowed to return. Gloucester gave him a rolling contract from June so he could continue rehabilitation at Kingsholm, but he will not be in the Cherry and Whites’ squad for the upcoming campaign. Singleton is now seeking another club and hopes to return to full-contact training in the coming weeks.
