An international student had his visa cancelled after Australian Border Force (ABF) officers allegedly discovered child abuse material on his phone at Adelaide Airport. The incident occurred when the Chinese national arrived on a flight from China on Monday, intending to study early childhood education in Australia.

According to ABC News, ABF officers selected the man’s baggage for examination, during which they reportedly found 21 videos deemed to be child abuse material. Following this discovery, the individual was issued a fine of $660, detained, and subsequently removed from Australia on the next available flight.

Inspector Mark Vaughan of the ABF expressed deep concern regarding the case, emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable children from individuals possessing such material. He stated that the ABF is vigilant in monitoring for videos and images of this nature at airports.

This incident is part of a broader trend, as the ABF reported that 17 travellers with alleged child abuse material on their electronic devices were stopped in the first two weeks of this year alone, leading to visa cancellations and arrests.
