According to Allafrica, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, told the UN Security Council that eastern Libya, Chad and Ethiopia have become supply routes for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

In a briefing on Monday, Idris said the UN Panel of Experts had documented eastern Libya’s transformation into a central hub in the RSF supply chain. He cited renovation and expansion at Kufra Airport and a significant rise in cargo flights that coincided with the growth of the RSF’s capabilities.

Idris said the RSF had received direct support from Libyan armed groups, while foreign recruits were deployed and RSF-aligned factions were facilitated in crossing the Libyan border. He said RSF elements were present in Libya during the monitoring period from October 2024 to February 2026, and that the flow has continued.

He described the Chad axis as a major hub in the war economy and the broader Sahel conflict. Smuggling networks run by armed groups, he said, move fuel, gold, weapons and fighters among Libya, Chad and Sudan. The networks have collection and storage centres for weapons and vehicles that are transported to Darfur through routes not subject to security interception measures.

On Ethiopia, Idris said Sudan’s government had monitored an RSF supply centre and rear base along the border since late 2025. He said this opened a new front against the Sudanese Army in Blue Nile, including drones launched from Bahir Dar Airport in March 2026. Idris called for verification and fact-finding mechanisms, saying mercenary recruitment violates the UN Charter and African agreements.
