According to ABC News, Tasmania Police say a serious stabbing at a home in Exeter in the state’s north and a subsequent fatal car crash at Legana are linked.

Emergency services were called to the Exeter address, north of Launceston, at about 4:30pm after reports that a woman had sustained serious stab wounds. Police said initial investigations indicated the injuries were inflicted by a man known to the woman.

The woman was taken to hospital and was reported to be in a critical condition. Police declared a crime scene at the address.

Police said initial inquiries indicated the man left the Exeter home and collided head-on with another vehicle on the West Tamar Highway at Legana, between Exeter and Launceston, just before 4:40pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sole occupant of the other vehicle, a woman in her 30s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. She was believed to be in a serious condition. Police remained at the crash scene until late into the night, and investigations into the wounding and crash are continuing.
