A Tasmanian musician has crafted a collection of guitars, built from Anzac biscuit tins, to be sold for charity. The funds will be donated to Open Arms, an organisation that offers support to Tasmanian veterans and their families. According to ABC News, Kitson is passionate about this project, driven by his own experiences and the struggles of friends and family who have served in the military.

Each guitar features innovative designs, such as a rifle cartridge as a whammy bar and a gun belt used as a strap. Despite their unconventional appearance, the guitars are fully functional, producing a sound reminiscent of a banjo due to their tin bodies. Kitson emphasizes the importance of playability, stating that the joy of sharing music is a vital aspect of his creations.

One guitar will be donated to the Latrobe RSL in memory of local WWII soldier Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean, who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. This donation reflects Kitson’s commitment to honoring veterans, as Sheean’s legacy is cherished in the community.

Kitson’s efforts not only aim to raise funds for Open Arms but also to spread happiness through music. He hopes that those who purchase his guitars will find joy in playing them. The project exemplifies how creativity can be harnessed for charitable causes, making a meaningful impact in the lives of veterans and their families.
