A foreign tourist has drowned after being swept from rocks at Indijup Natural Spa near Yallingup, Western Australia. According to ABC News, the man, aged in his 20s and visiting from South-East Asia, fell into the ocean just after midday on Monday. He became caught in a rip and drifted out to sea.

Emergency responders attempted to rescue the man, but he had limited swimming abilities, and attempts to reach him with flotation devices were unsuccessful. His body was later recovered from the water by a jet ski.

This tragic incident echoes a previous drowning at the same beach six years ago, which prompted calls for improved safety signage. Acting South West Superintendent Andy Elliott emphasized the importance of respecting ocean warnings and safety measures, stating that the incident serves as a reminder for both tourists and locals.

Residents in the area are advocating for enhanced safety equipment at beaches that attract numerous visitors each year. Yallingup resident Laurie Schlueter expressed his distress over the incident and called for immediate action to implement better rescue equipment, suggesting that more than just signage is needed to ensure safety on the beaches.
