According to The Guardian, the Trump administration has asked the US supreme court to intervene over a federal judge’s temporary block on new US Postal Service mail-in voting restrictions.

The justice department filed an emergency request seeking to have the court lift Judge Indira Talwani’s order while she decides whether to extend the ban. The order currently prevents the postal service from implementing the plan.

The proposed system, developed following an executive order by Donald Trump, includes an online portal intended to track millions of mail ballots. The administration’s appeal comes as the court fight over the restrictions continues.

The plan has drawn fierce criticism. A whistleblower told Congress that its requirements could result in scores of mail ballots never being sent. Talwani’s temporary order has therefore stopped the USPS from putting the new mail-ballot system into effect for now.
