Arabic version: انتهاء مهمة الأمم المتحدة في الصحراء الغربية بعد 35 عاماً
According to France 24, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the disputed Western Sahara region ended Sunday after 35 years.
The mission’s mandate was not renewed because the UN Security Council failed to extend it. Its conclusion ends a decades-long UN peacekeeping presence in the territory.
Morocco, which claims Western Sahara as its own, welcomed the decision. The Algeria-backed Polisario Front, which opposes Morocco’s claim, described the end of the mission as “unacceptable.”
