Arabic version: ويلز تواجه نهاية حاسمة في دوري الأمم
According to BBC News, Wales have lost three of four matches since returning to the top tier of the Nations League, with defeats in Portugal and Denmark either side of a victory over Norway. Craig Bellamy described the opening run as “tough”, but Wales’ hopes of remaining in League A remain in their own hands before November’s final fixtures.
Bellamy has criticised the four-game international window, saying it made “no sense” and favoured bigger nations. Wales had Harry Wilson and Joe Rodon ruled unfit before the campaign began, while David Brooks withdrew through injury during the camp. Midfielder Jordan James said Wales were “a little bit flat” against Denmark after a demanding schedule of matches, travel and recovery.
The window also exposed concerns over squad depth. Former Wales striker Iwan Roberts pointed to the limited options available from the bench, while supporters questioned substitutions in the 1-0 defeat by Denmark. Kieffer Moore was introduced late and Dan James did not play, although Bellamy had said before the match that the winger was not fit enough to start. Wales did not hand any new debuts during the window.
Wilson’s absence was particularly felt as Wales failed to score in three of their first four League A games. He has scored 17 goals in 69 caps and no Wales player has scored more under Bellamy. Ethan Ampadu, meanwhile, drew praise for his performances, with Sam Vokes saying the Leeds captain delivers “eight out of 10 every game”.
Wales are third in their group following their win over Norway and Norway’s defeat by Portugal. They face Norway in Oslo and Portugal in Cardiff in November. A third-place finish could help Wales avoid relegation and improve their seeding for the Euro 2028 qualifying draw, while the revised format means only the two worst-ranked bottom teams in League A will be relegated automatically.
