According to Al Jazeera, violence and military operations expanded across the occupied West Bank after killings in Tal, southwest of Nablus, on July 24. More than 20 settlers from the Havat Gilad settlement attacked homes on Tal’s eastern edge, and four Palestinians from the Ramadan family, a settler and an Israeli soldier were killed in the ensuing violence.
Hours later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered what he called a “wide-scale military operation”, including the demolition of the alleged Palestinian attacker’s home, revoking work permits in villages he described as “terror hotspots”, reinforcing army units and accelerating the “regularisation” of settler farms and outposts. Israeli public radio reported that 26 army battalions were deployed across the West Bank by the weekend.
Israeli forces raided Tal nightly in subsequent days, arresting roughly 30 to 50 residents and searching about 70 homes, Al Jazeera reported. Operations also took place in Jenin, Tubas, Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem, Tulkarem and occupied East Jerusalem. Four settlement outposts appeared near Tal and the villages of Awarta, Qusra and Jabal Ubayd, according to Israeli public radio and activist Murad Samara.
Settler attacks affected villages throughout the territory over the weekend. In Sarra, settlers burned six Palestinian homes and five vehicles and beat three villagers, Mayor Numan Abdullah said. In Farata, settlers burned a woodworking shop, two homes and farmland, while five Palestinians were wounded, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. Two mosques were set on fire before dawn on Sunday in Qusra and Kour.
Road closures and checkpoints also disrupted travel and medical access. In Nablus, Emergency and Ambulance Center director Ameed Ahmad told Wafa that tightened checkpoint restrictions were delaying ambulance transfers, including for kidney dialysis patients. OCHA recorded 18 deaths tied to settler attacks in 2026 as of July 20, a total that had already exceeded all of 2025 before the four Tal killings were added.
