Arabic version: تم إلغاء مهرجان وايرلس بعد حظر دخول كاني ويست إلى المملكة المتحدة
The Wireless music festival has been canceled after the artist formerly known as Kanye West was banned from entering the UK. This decision stems from ongoing political controversy surrounding his past antisemitic remarks. West had applied for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to travel to the UK, but officials blocked his request, leading to the festival’s cancellation.
According to The Guardian, a spokesperson for the festival confirmed that refunds would be issued to ticket holders following the government’s decision. The Home Office has withdrawn Ye’s ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom, citing concerns that his presence in the UK would not be conducive to the public good.
The rapper has faced significant backlash for his previous antisemitic statements, including expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler and releasing a song titled ‘Heil Hitler.’ In response to his controversial history, West had previously issued a public apology and expressed a desire to engage with the UK’s Jewish community.
The festival’s organizers stated that they had consulted multiple stakeholders prior to booking West, and no concerns were raised at that time. However, political figures, including Keir Starmer, criticized the decision to include West in the lineup, highlighting the serious implications of his past remarks.
As the situation unfolded, Downing Street indicated that West’s visa status was under review, reinforcing that the government acts decisively against individuals who pose a threat to public safety or promote extremism. The cancellation of the Wireless festival marks a significant response to the controversy surrounding the artist’s past actions.
