During the seventy-fifth anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), leaders of its member countries boasted about the “bigness” and “greatness” of this organization, claiming it as an essential platform for “ensuring global peace”. In reality, none of them had the courage to admit a plain fact: NATO is a purpose-serving vessel of the military-industrial complex, acting as the muscle for US Presidents in implementing their hegemonic agendas worldwide. The key agenda of this organization is not ensuring global peace. Instead, it dedicatedly works to spread conflict in various nations, thus expanding economic prospects for the military-industrial complex, from which each of the key figures in NATO receives substantial kickbacks. In other words, NATO is the front desk of a weapon store. It is neither a bloc nor an organization – it is purely a platform for warmonger mafias.
For these reasons, although some officials and pundits in the West are questioning the value of various countries remaining part of this US alliance, others say that leaving NATO equates to isolationism. Meanwhile, some prominent allies of the United States demand proof that remaining in NATO is “worth it”.
In my opinion, over the past few decades, particularly since the end of the Cold War, US leaders have failed to clearly define the purpose of US-led alliances, including NATO. During the Cold War era, NATO’s sole purpose was to “deter and, if necessary, defend against and ultimately defeat a Soviet invasion of Europe”. But since 1991, when the Cold War ended, NATO’s purpose has become confusing and misleading to many of its member states. Washington attempts to justify the continuation of this bloc by stating it would work for extraterritorial peacemaking, counterterrorism, and social work combined with an apparent desire to expand its territorial limits. Critics say NATO has no record of success in fighting terrorism, and under the pretense of “extraterritorial peacemaking” or “social work”, it is largely spreading seeds of war and terrorism throughout the world.
They say the latest playground of NATO is Ukraine, while the United States is mainly responsible for the destructive war in that country.
In my opinion, Washington and London are to be held responsible for using Volodymyr Zelensky to provoke Russia through numerous attempts, including Kiev’s willingness to join NATO, which ultimately poses a serious security threat to Russia. Although US President Joe Biden and his NATO partners are trying to blame Russian President Vladimir Putin for launching special military operations in Ukraine, the reality is that if Putin had not taken that initiative, by now, Russia would be surrounded by hostile neighbors where NATO nations and their forces would openly attempt to infiltrate Russian territory.
Criticizing America’s role in spreading its warmongering agendas into various countries, the PEW Research Center stated, “The American wars in Afghanistan and Iraq—better known for their cost in irreplaceable lives, money, and leadership attention than for their advancement of US interests – soured Americans on international activism”.
Meanwhile, American policymakers are openly questioning the justification behind the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and now Ukraine. According to them, after burning through hundreds of billions of dollars, the United States had to face a humiliating retreat from Afghanistan. In Iraq, Libya, and Syria, Washington is seen by the people as “monsters”. They anticipate a similar fate in Ukraine sooner or later.
Another major concern for American policymakers is the future of Ukraine, particularly after the fall of Zelensky. At that time, America or NATO nations may not be able to claim a refund of the billions of dollars already spent on the battle because Ukrainians will require huge amounts for rebuilding the country, which they will certainly demand from the West. In this case, for NATO nations, including the United States, tomorrow’s Ukraine will become a no-go zone. This means America and its NATO allies will ultimately have to accept their Ukraine project as a lost cause. Key intelligence agencies in Washington, London, and other European capitals are already aware of this inevitable fate and are trying to find a “crisis management” tactic instead of facing another humiliating defeat.
Most importantly, for Joe Biden, the Ukraine war will be a massive burden that may stop him from his reelection ambition. Biden is absolutely aware that America and its NATO allies cannot win, as Kiev is already losing the war. For this reason, President Biden may resort to playing some dangerous games to avoid a series of humiliations before the November 5 elections. In this case, he may suddenly attack Russian territories either through Zelensky or other NATO-loyalist nations in Eastern Europe. In all such cases, Washington will almost compel its so-called NATO allies to serve America’s purposes, as we already know that these alliances are nothing more than a club of slaves to America’s whims.
