According to ABC News, daylight saving time will begin on Sunday, October 4, with clocks moving forward from 2am to 3am in the Australian jurisdictions that observe it.

The ACT, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria will change their clocks. Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving time, so clocks will remain unchanged there. Daylight saving ends in April, when clocks move back by an hour.

Most smart devices are expected to update automatically, but analogue clocks and some appliances, including ovens and microwaves, may need to be changed manually. The New South Wales government recommends setting household clocks that do not update automatically before going to bed on Saturday.

The Sleep Health Foundation recommends going to bed 15 to 20 minutes earlier during the three or four nights before the change, and setting alarms 30 minutes earlier on Saturday and Sunday. It says morning sunshine and outdoor exercise can help people adjust, while noting that losing an hour in spring can be harder than gaining one in autumn.

In the ACT, New South Wales and South Australia, the time change coincides with the Labour Day public holiday on Monday, October 5. Tasmania and Victoria will also switch to daylight saving, but October 5 is not a public holiday in those states.
