According to ABC News, Fremantle Dockers supporters Danni Bloomfield and Matt Abbott will marry outside the MCG on Saturday morning before entering the stadium to watch Fremantle play in the 2026 AFL grand final.

The couple, who have been together for 15 years, travelled from Karratha to Melbourne for the occasion. Two friends also flew from Western Australia for what will be both the couple’s wedding day and the Dockers’ grand-final day.

Bloomfield and Abbott had initially intended to hold a surprise wedding at Bloomfield’s 50th birthday party. Their plans changed after they learned a close friend was travelling to Melbourne for the grand final. Abbott sent Bloomfield flight details, and the pair decided to make the trip and marry at the MCG.

The ceremony will take place outside Gate 3, the entrance through which they will go to reach their seats. Luke Lalor, Bloomfield’s friend of more than 30 years, will officiate. Lalor said he is a celebrant and that the ceremony will be formally legal, with the required notification of intention to marry completed.

Bloomfield had hoped to wear a purple dress, but a delayed delivery prompted last-minute shopping in Melbourne. Abbott will wear Fremantle-themed touches. He also has a tattoo appointment booked for Tuesday, hoping to add a premiership cup, the year, the couple’s initials and an infinity rope if the Dockers win.
