According to The Guardian, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme is promoting the band’s new album, Perfecth, through appearances including a duet on Shania Twain’s new album, Celebrity Gogglebox and BBC 6 Music interviews. The newspaper questioned the contrast between that public profile and past allegations and an on-camera incident involving a photographer.

The Guardian reported that Homme’s former wife, Brody Dalle, testified in court that he head-butted her and alleged that he had threatened violence. Homme has said that Dalle was violent towards him. Both have obtained restraining orders against one another, and Homme has full custody of their children after Dalle’s boyfriend was found to have forged her signature on an application for a restraining order, the report said.

The article also cited footage showing Homme kicking photographer Chelsea Lauren’s camera into her face. Homme acknowledged the incident in an apology video. It said he has spoken recently about recovering from a difficult period, including successful cancer treatment and addressing his vices.

Queens of the Stone Age have also launched a novelty complaints hotline as part of the new album’s promotion. The Guardian argued that the campaign and Homme’s current media presence reflect a wider debate over public rehabilitation, fan loyalty and how audiences respond to allegations and evidence of violence against women.
