According to ABC News, a light aircraft crashed into a field near the Greenside private airfield in Muchea, north-east of Perth, on Saturday. The two men on board survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the pilot of the single-engine aircraft crashed near the airfield, off Brand Highway, during the morning. Emergency services attended the incident, and police said the aircraft sustained significant damage.
A man in his 60s and another man in his 30s were treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Perth Hospital at priority one. St John Ambulance said the men were believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services district officer Gareth Deeg said one occupant got out of the aircraft independently and the other was assisted out. He said people at the airfield quickly came to the men’s aid and described the site as complex because of its location, available information, fuel and the aircraft’s construction.
The aircraft came down about 250 metres from the runway. Its fuselage, wings and tail were badly damaged. The Greenside Recreational Flyers Club operates at the airfield, and police said their inquiries are ongoing.
